The echoes of Dos de Mayo in Europe

The spark of rebellion Madrid, and soon the rest of Spain, jump towards the North of Europe.

The embers come to Prussia, Austria and Russia and provide a great opportunity to Britain to intervene in a second front, which eventually would become the fundamental.

During the short war that Austria fought against Napoleon (1809), there was a planned attempt to imitate English example Dos de Mayo. Vienna, with the help of propagandists known as Friedrich Schlegel and Friedrich Gentz, set in motion a campaign against Napoleon. Many English writings were translated and broadcast in German.

In Prussia, Heinrich von Kleist continued the anti-French propaganda from Berlin. Until his death (November 1811), Kleist became a true poet of resistance national against Napoleonic imperialism. In his poem "An Palafox " placed on an equal footing with Zaragoza defender Leonidas of Sparta, Arminio Teutoburg and William Tell.
